Dusty Hill Wines yesterday picked and crushed the first full bodied Shiraz grapes in Queensland, and possibly Australia, for the 2004 vintage. The Shiraz grapes came in at 13.7 baume and it is the earliest that the Prendergast family has started vintage at their vineyard in the South Burnett.
Joe Prendergast put the early pick down to the near perfect weather this vintage at Dusty Hill.
“We believe these are the first full bodied Shiraz grapes to be picked in Australia this year, certainly they are the first in Queensland. It has been sensational weather, with a clean vineyard, a smattering of rain and then a nice dry ripening spell for the fruit.
